Week of 25th Nov: A Trip to the Cole Museum and Volunteering

So this week has been a little quieter but still good! On Monday after work I visited the Cole Museum at Reading University (I work there so it seemed stupid that I hadn’t visited before!). It was really interesting and has a lot of specimens on show for such a small museum. I definitely recommend visiting in the area. I managed to get a load of photos of the skulls on display which I intend to use in the future for my Skull of the Month page. The image at the top of the page is an Asian Elephant skeleton which the have on show there – pretty cool!

I also met up with the volunteer co-coordinator of the university’s museums to find out a bit about gaining museum experience. He was a really nice guy and I’m now on the mailing list so I can easily find out about any opportunities which I want to get involved in. Hopefully that will mean trying something new in he new year!

On Thursday I was at Guildford museum again inputting information on to the online database. Most of the items I recorded were of printing plates, I think from a book called ‘Three acres and a Cow’! I’s quite amusing what you come across when doing these type of jobs!
